First-Call-Website-Small-Images-7Key to managing asbestos is to assess the extent to which the property is contaminated by asbestos containing materials (ACMs). This is performed through a specialist asbestos survey, which identifies the location, type, volume and condition of any ACMs. Asbestos regulations (specifically The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012) place a legal duty to take active steps to identify, manage and monitor asbestos containing materials in any non-domestic property. Part of this legal duty includes carrying out an inspection of the property. As part of our asbestos services, First Call offers a complete range of asbestos surveys, including:

Management Asbestos Surveys

The purpose of the ‘Management Asbestos Survey’ is to locate (as far as reasonably practicable) the presence and extent of any Asbestos Containing Materials in a property which could be damaged or disturbed during normal occupancy. The Management Asbestos Survey forms the foundation of the asbestos register and is the basis for the continued management of any identified Asbestos Containing Materials.

Asbestos Surveying SomersetA Refurbishment or Demolition Asbestos Survey will be necessary when the building (or any part of it) is to be upgraded, refurbished or demolished. The purpose of the Refurbishment or Demolition Asbestos Survey is to locate and describe (as far as is reasonably practicable) all Asbestos Containing Materials in the area where the refurbishment or demolition is to take place. These asbestos surveys are fully intrusive and involve destructive inspection, as necessary, to gain access to all areas.

The survey will usually involve sampling and analysis to determine the presence of asbestos.

Asbestos may be part of any commercial or domestic building which was built or refurbished before the year 2000.
